An apparently obvious headline on ABC online earlier this week:

UK study backs websites like My School

So what’s the lead?

The Federal Opposition says British research supporting the publishing of school league tables does not justify the Government’s My School website.

Can anyone explain what just happened there?

Opposition education spokesman Christopher Pyne says he supports the publishing of school results but not the ranking of schools.

So did anyone speak with the Education Minister, or someone from the Education Department, or maybe even someone qualified to interpret the study from Bristol university? Maybe they did, but they certainly didn’t publish any quotes from anyone other than Christopher Pyne.

We’ve commented before on the ABC running The Australian’s daily agenda or opposition talking points, if you can distinguish the two, as news before, but the frequency with which it occurs almost demands a name for this behaviour. Delaware Syndrome perhaps? Battered Broadcaster Syndrome? Give me your suggestions in the comments.
