Tassie tensions. Another name has been thrown into the mix in the Tasmanian Compliance Corporation scandal which is threatening to engulf the Lennon Government in Tassie. New deputy premier Steve Kons has been accused of hiding a secret monopoly deal that led to criminal charges against his predecessor. Shadow Attorney-General Michael Hodgman says that if Kons was executing his job properly as the Attorney-General, the deal would have been referred to the DPP immediately in April and its existence raised with the Premier.
Lead by example? Kevin Rudd has called for a curfew at Brisbane Airport. So is he going to fly in and out of Brissie only between 6am and 10pm as a matter of principle?
Timber! A slightly provocative press release from Forestry Minister Eric Abetz: “The failure of the Greens to turn up to, let alone ask a single question, at Forestry Estimates last night proves once and for all that Australia’s forest practices are the best in the world…”
Another test for the NSW Libs. Tensions are running high in the NSW Libs ahead of this Saturday’s preselection for the seat of Davidson, with sitting MP Andrew Humpherson under challenge. The party is still rejoicing after claiming the scalp of police minister Carl Scully last week, but this weekend could throw the focus back on internal ructions.
