The Washington Post speaks to campaign volunteers for both McCain and Obama as they gear up for one final push.
“For some volunteers, the time spent in service to one candidate or the other has been life changing. Penny Roach also has been working for Obama since September and even was tapped to introduce him at one of his rallies. She became emotional as she described the impact of working on a campaign that has made volunteers central to its operations.
“The campaign, she said, has set standards for how she now looks at other aspects of her life. “I want to be thanked. I want to be empowered. I want to be trusted,” she said. “That I will take with me everywhere, and that’s what I’m going to expect. This made me know I deserve that.” Roach began to choke up at this point. “It’s been the greatest experience,” she said. “It really has been fantastic”.”
