Crikey’s Canberra correspondent Bernard Keane and Crikey editor Sophie Black discuss the Opposition’s refusal to support the government’s offshore processing amendments.
Bernard what a load of crock. Less than 0.2% of the refugees who came on boats drowned.
And why blame other nations – we are the ones who do nothing much, not the rest of the world.
And resettlement is VOLUNTARY YOU MORON.
The convention only covers asylum seekers.
And 90 million kids died while a few people drowned and we are bombing Afghans to bits.
You are a moron Bernard.
There is nothing even remotely dangerous about boats, there is no such thing as deterring refugees – we did that in 1938.
There is already an off shore processing centre: INDONESIA.
Why no media or politician discuss this?
There is already a “Queue” in Indonesia and the government is already paying for the building and running of detention centres there.
Wouldn’t it be a lot simpler and more humane to extend this to Malaysia and just take an annual intake of 1000 or more from these countries?
The refugees don’t have to risk their lives on dangerous leaky boats and people smugglers can’t profit from them.
What happened to the government’s promise of taking 500 refugees per annum from Indonesia?
