The ground is shifting under many of life’s little certainties. Our underpants might now be made in China, entirely remote from the input of Pat Rafter. Aussie companies that were once the pillars of our stock exchange are now nickel and dime affairs, worth just cents. And there’s the thing: we struck a bargain when we invested the sum of our faith in the market …. we attached no greater value to anything other than what someone else might be prepared to pay to make it their own. And when that value is a fraction of what we took to be the perceived worth …. what then? Is there an intrinsic value for anything beyond its price? Just a thought.
