Media Monitors’ Top 20 Political Index has the looming Budget dragging Wayne Swan up into the top five, while opposite number Malcolm Turnbull, who may not know much about inflation but knows what he likes, tumbles five spots. Penny Wong has also splashed her way into the top ten, but Peter Costello’s brief return to relevance has started to fade already.

Jet planes have sent Joel Fitzgibbon soaring 16 spots (notice it was Rudd and Houston who did the hard work of announcing the death of Lance Corporal Marks, and defending the Afghanistan operation), while the Don-based citizenship test has brought Chris Evans some brief profile. Among the premiers, Morris Iemma – now officially the worst NSW premier ever, according to Newspoll – still leads the pack from Bligh and Brumby. (Note how he dominated talkback this week — plenty of irate callers)

At the other end, both Maxine McKew and Warren Truss have been bundled (my favourite sporting verb) out of the top 20.

None of which of course answers the question – where’s Troy Sniffwell? And why is the Logies’ media mentions count 666?
