The Winners: Seven News topped the night because of big audiences in Sydney, Brisbane and Perth. It averaged 1.603 million viewers. 60 Minutes averaged 1.569 million, down 300,000 from last week. Domestic Blitz on Nine won the 6.30pm slot with 1.432 million, while Nine News was 4th with 1.427 million. CSI Miami averaged 1.378 million at 8.30pm for Nine and Seven’s Battle of The Choirs at 7.30pm rose to 1.352 million. Seven’s ABBA movie plug at 6.30 pm averaged 1.270 million and Foyle’s War returned for another series on the ABC at 8.30pm with 1.146 million people. The 7pm ABC News averaged 1.093 million in 9th spot and 10th was Doctor Who on the ABC from 7.30pm to 8.15 pm with 1.092 million. The Big Brother Eviction averaged 1.081 million from 7.30pm to 8.40pm and Rove was 12th off the back of BB with 1.033 million. CSI New York averaged 936,000 for Nine at 9.30pm and Private Practice on Seven at 8.30pm, 917,000.

The Losers:  Lipstick Jungle on Seven at 9.30pm; 628,000. Dexter on Ten at 9.40pm, 783,000. Both deserve the rejection they are suffering at the moment from the hands of viewers. Sensing Murder on Nine at 10.30pm, 560,000. And yet Psychics on Seven Tuesdays at 7.30pm is doing well! Soon it will be Tarot cards instead of People Meters for TV ratings. Now there’s an idea!

News & CA: Seven News again won nationally and in every market but Melbourne. Ten News averaged 759,000. SBS News at 6.30pm, 217,000. Sunday morning: Weekend Sunrise from 8am, 440,000. Weekend Sunrise early at 7.30am, 261,000. Landline on the ABC at noon, 241,000. Insiders on the ABC at 9am, 178,000, Sunday on Nine at 7.30am, 136,0000, Offsiders at 10.30am, 127,000. Inside Business at 10am, 126,000. The Papal Mass Live from Randwick (the first on the card) at 9.15am yesterday, 253,000, beating all the chat and yak shows bar Weekend and Early Sunrise.

The Stats: Nine won with All People 6pm to midnight with 28.8% (32.3%) from Seven with 24.3% (22.7%), Ten with 20.4% (20.5% and Ten won 6pm to 10.30pm 16 to 39 and 18 to 49 demos). The ABC was on 19.5% (16.5%) and SBS was on 7.0% (8.0%). Nine won all five metro markets. In regional areas WIN/NBN won with 34.6% from {Prime/7Qld with 21.2%, Southern Cross (Ten) with 19.9%, the ABC with 17.6% and SBS with 6.7%.

Glenn Dyer’s comments: Big Brother last night: 875,000 for the normal 6.30pm program and the anti-climatic live eviction garnering 1.081 million from 7.30pm to 8.40pm has set us up for a mercy finale of the program tonight. Viewers will look, some will loiter, but they won’t flock in huge numbers to watch the last ever episode in its current form tonight from 7pm to 9.30pm. How, after the slow death this year, can Ten and the producers manage to drag it out for so long? The answer is by plundering the past to remind us of how far the series this year and last have fallen. If you are of a mind to tune in, do so by all means, or record it, or go to the website later in the night. Meanwhile be entertained by City Homicide on Seven ay 8.30pm; David Attenborough’s Life of Mammals on Nine at 7.30pm; Top Gear on SBS at 7.30pm and Four Corners tonight on the Firepower rort.
