The ongoing saga of Rupert Murdoch’s battle for control of News Corp with John Malone saw the Sun King taken to court in Delaware by a coalition of global investors who eventually prised out a compromise vote on his notorious poison pill at this year’s AGM. Now Rupert is close to seeing off Liberty Media by handing over some of the company’s crown jewels, including a controlling stake in US satellite giant DirecTV, just so he can decide which of his children takes over the running of News Corp. Dealing in company assets to secure family control is never a good look, especially when you already run a gerrymander that would have made Sir Joh Bjelke-Petersen blush and refuse to have an independent chairman.
