They’re playing our song. ABC Radio in Brisbane is breaking the poll tedium by playing Send in the Clowns to what the political leaders have to say each day.

For whom the poll tells. There’s a touch of spring in the air in Melbourne today – and a ray of sunlight for Liberal Leader Ted Baillieu, according to the latest Morgan Poll. While Labor still has a 10 point lead in the two party preferred vote – 55 to 45%, that’s a lot better than the 15 point gap in July. There’s no such luck for his colleagues in NSW, though. Former navy man Peter Debnam is taking water and listing badly. Labor has a massive two party preferred lead of 59.5 to 50.5% and the Coalition’s primary support is down seven percent on last month.

Don’t frighten the coppers. The Tasmanian Police Special Operation Group are big tough guys? The state Liberals don’t think so. Shadow minister for police Peter Gutwein issued a release yesterday calling for an “independent inquiry into serious allegations of abuse, intimidation and bullying”. Including, it appears, senior coppers using the F word in front of their charges. Poor petals.

Comeback kid. Sticking in Tasmania, is Liberal powerbroker Eric Abetz trying to put failed former state leader Rene Hidding into the Senate? What about his slogan at the March poll bewailing “special deals for special mates”?

How nice to see you. And yet more talk from Tassie. Was that really a rep from KPMG – the company inquiring into the TCC scandal that cost former deputy premier Bryan Green his job – sharing a table with TCC director and former minister John White at a recent Public Relations Institute of Australia do?
