Another night where quality shone (Packed To The Rafters: 1.912 million national/ 1.99 million metro/ 713,000 regional) amid the dross of non-ratings TV on Nine. Ten’s The Biggest Loser (932,000 metro) continued its revival in week two, taking advantage of Nine’s decision to show repeats of repeats and other junk. ABC1 continued with a mixture of new and old (New Tricks at 8.30pm had 766,000 metro). Rafters was about average in metro markets without the help of My Kitchen Rules as a lead-in, but in regional markets it didn’t need it, easily topped the night’s viewing with a very strong level of viewing.

The ABC showed a fresh Foreign Correspondent — 899,000 national/ 585,000 metro/ 314,000 regional) and At The Movies at 9.30pm, which also did well with 558,000 national/ 389,000 metro/ 169,000 regional viewers. The World Cup qualifier between Australia and Oman on SBS ONE averaged 419,000/ 306,000/ 113,000. Only a bit better than for Dateline and Insight (but not so good for Australia), Seven’s Home and Away (1.416 million/ 926,000/ 490,000) again held the centre for Seven at 7pm and ensured a winning night. In the mornings, Today with 341,000 had an easy metro win over Sunrise with 314,000. But nationally Sunrise was again on top, 526,000 to 511,000 for Today.

US update: The Voice‘s fourth series returned on NBC in the US with more than 13.4 million viewers on Monday night, down on the 14 million for the finale of series series but up on the season average in 2012. It was also better than the 12.95 million recorded for last Wednesday night’s episodes of American Idol on Fox and true 11.94 million for Thursday night’s second episode of Idol.
