ASIO’s funding since the “war on terror” began, including the funding it has received to build its vastly over-budget and long-delayed new headquarters in the Parliamentary Triangle in Canberra:
ASIO has done very well out of recent wars, under both Labor and Liberal governments. At times it has had so much money it was unable to hire people fast enough to spend it. ASIO continues to demand a bigger role on top of its already draconian powers given to it by the Howard government to prosecute the apparently perpetual terror war.
The question for parliamentarians shouldn’t be whether ASIO doesn’t have enough money, but how much is enough for an organisation that apparently can never get enough of anything?
