This week we continue Crikey’s 15th birthday celebration with another commemorative timeline. We are remembering 2008, an important year for online media, the world and of course, Crikey.
This was the year Barack Obama ran for president, harnessing the power of social media to engage with millions of voters who had previously felt that their voices were not being heard.
Facebook overtook MySpace to be the go-to social network, and here in Australia Victorians absolutely did not break any rules in illegally obtaining Underbelly, in contravention of a judicial order.
Kevin Rudd delivered his historic apology to the stolen generations, and the world economy continued to cope with fallout from the global financial crisis.
And in Crikey, Bernard Keane delivered a heartfelt “good riddance” to Alexander Downer.
