On election speculation

Adrian Jackson writes: Re. “Tips and rumours: it’s the vibe” (yesterday). Every time we approach an election the chattering classes on TV and radio panel shows — and dare I say it, the print media — debate when the election might be. It is all hot air, a waste of time and lazy journalism. When the writs are issued for an election we will find out officially but then the chattering classes will speculate the election outcome. Please get on with serious reporting of facts not speculation everyone.

On negative interest rates

Richard Barlow writes: Re. “Business bites: negative interest rates” (yesterday). The BIS, or Sadomonetarists of Basel as Paul Krugman calls them, have been warning of imminent inflation and the need to raise interest rates for years.  They lost their mojo when the world went off the gold standard, now they just make noise about low interest rates affecting bankers profits.
