The Winners: The debut episode of Talkin’ ‘Bout Your Generation (TBYG) won the night with a very encouraging 1.648 million people. Seven’s one-off special A Lion Called Christian at 7.30pm was second with 1.587 million. Third was Seven News with 1.540 million, Ten’s NCIS was 4th with 1.510 million and Today Tonight was next with 1.485 million. Nine News was 6th with 1.250 million and A Current Affair followed with 1.259 million. Home and Away again won the 7pm slot with 1.212 million and MasterChef Australia from 7pm to 7.30pm was 9th with 1.159 million people. All Saints was 10th with 1.151 million (and not all that convincing). The 7pm repeat of Two and a Half Men averaged 1.148 million, the 8.30pm episode, 1.127 million and the 9pm episode, 1.081 million. All Saints at least beat them. 14th was the 7pm ABC News with 1.030 million. Seven’s 10 Years Younger in 10 Days at 9.30pm averaged 991,000, Lie to Me on Ten at 9.30pm, 989,000. 20 to 1 on Nine at 8.30pm, 931,000. Hot Seat at 5.30pm, 634,000, Deal or No Deal, 809,000 Ten News, 926,000 and won the slot easily. Foreign Correspondent on the ABC at 8pm, 603,000.

The Losers: Hell’s Kitchen, Gordon Ramsay, buried on Nine at 10.30pm; 394,000. Lead Balloon on the ABC 9.30pm, 203,000. I have described it before as aptly named, more so for its final episode last night.

News & CA: Seven News again won nationally and in every market but Today Tonight won everywhere but Melbourne. Ten’s late News/Sports Tonight, 386,000. The 7.30 Report, 791,000. Lateline, 228,000, Lateline Business, 120,000. SBS News at 6.30pm, 160,000, at 9.30pm, 216,000, Insight at 7.30pm, 210,000. 7am Sunrise, 407,000, 7am Today, 271,000. No Logies morning after coverage. Now where in the world is Karl?

The Stats: Seven won All People 6pm to midnight with 29.7% (29.3%) narrowly from Ten with 29.5% (24.8%). Ten though won 16 to 39, 18 to 49 and 25 to 54 from 6pm to 10.30pm prime time. Nine was third with 23.0% (26.2%), from the ABC with 13.6% (15.4%) and SBS with 4.2% (4.3%). Seven won Sydney, Brisbane and Perth. Ten won Melbourne and Adelaide. Nine still leads the week 30.2% to 26.7%. In regional areas a win for Prime/7Qld with 30.8%, from Southern Cross (Ten) with 25.3%, WIN/NBN with 24.2%, the ABC with 13.8% and SBS with 6.0%.

Glenn Dyer’s comments: The new show on Ten, Talkin’ ‘Bout Your Generation worked, at least in episode one. Let’s hope it’s around for a bit longer. Now that Thank God You’re Here is back, plus Spicks and Specks (tonight on the ABC), The Gruen Transfer (and occasionally Good News Week), comedy with a bit of edge, commentary and direction is back at the forefront of viewers’ minds. Shaun Micallef was at his best on Newstopia on SBS last year.

TONIGHT: Spicks and Specks and The Gruen Transfer on the ABC, plus the aging New Inventors. Seven has Thank God You’re Here, Criminal Minds, Home and Away and the dying My Name Is Earl.

Nine has What’s Good For You, RPA, The Mentalist and doubled Cold Case.

Ten has the fading House, MasterChef, The Simpsons and Numb3rs is back to replace the failed Life at 9.30pm.

And The Cook and The Chef at 6.30pm on the ABC and the repeat of Food Safari on SBS at 7.30pm.
