On the “dual” Nationals
Meredith Williams writes: Re. ” It’s not too late to cut Joyce and Nash adrift” (Friday)
So far members of only one party have done the transparent and honourable thing in this growing debacle over dual citizenship — without delay, denial or blame shifting. Says volumes, really.
On Pauline Hanson’s Burqa Stunt
Duncan Gilbey writes: Re. “There’s nothing beneath that burqa” (Friday)
Stunt it may have been, but it seemed to work. It made front page news everywhere the day after, the papers stuffed with commentators falling over themselves to condemn her. She plays the victim, and now she has proof – “See, the political establishment and the media have got it in for me.”
This is a big win for Hanson.
Re: “Freedom of religion is not the right to dictate others’ lives”
When The Drum website was slated for retirement, I was very disappointed not to have the chance to continue to read Michael Bradley’s thoughtful and intelligent opinion pieces. Thanks to Crikey, I continue to have that pleasure. Along with Rundle, Keane, Taylor et al., I continue to enjoy great writing and learn something each day. Thanks Crikey!
Duncan…according to Newspoll out today, the PHONies vote went up by 1%, in a poll with a MOE around 2.4%.
I’ll be more interested to see if that ‘gain’ is maintained.
However, I do agree that the media went bonkers and gave Poorlean far too much exposure…total pack of drongos all round!!
Nick Xenophon must find it really grating that the acronym for Pauline Hanson’s One Nation is the last part of his name. Almost every time I read PHON I initially think of Nick instead of Pauline and her cronies.
