Welcome back to 2018. So little has changed. We are still in the summer ratings doldrums, but land is on the horizon. Nine won the first week of the year with the 5th test, Seven won last week with the Australian Open tennis, which easily accounted for the ODIs on Nine and the Big Bash T20 tip and run on Ten.
The tennis averaged just on 1.5 million for the prime time session last night, while Session 2 of the ODI (Australian batting) averaged 1.4 million.
The 44% overall share and 32.1% main channel share tells us what Seven lost later this week and next Sunday night had Kyrgios made it through to the final. In the ODI, Australia capitulated to England and a 3-zip loss, with two games to play on Friday and Sunday. Ten was crushed, finishing 4th overall and in the main channels where its share in the metros was 4.3%, which is close to an all time low. And that was the night.
In regional markets Seven News was tops with 477,000 viewers, followed by the second session of the ODI with 460,000, Nine/NBN News was 3rd with 43,000, 4th was the tennis on Seven with 413,000 and 5th was the first session of the ODI with 389,000.
