ABC News Breakfast was an early winner from the 2019 election, yesterday morning scoring a big win over Nine’s Today — and moved into second nationally in breakfast behind Sunrise.

Today only managed 266,000 nationally and 178,000 in the metros. News Breakfast pulled in 299,000 nationally and 181,000 in the metros. Sunrise won the morning with 456,000 and 279,000 and got no bounce at all from the Federal election being called in the breakfast time slot, unlike News Breakfast which added 38,000 nationally from Wednesday and 61,000 from the previous Thursday morning. Today actually lost viewers — down 24,000 nationally (8,000 in the metros) from Wednesday.

Seven’s hour of news again beat Nine’s by over 300,000 between 6 and 6pm nationally. The AFL on Seven (762,000) beat the NRL on Nine (675,000). Gogglebox on Ten had 734,000, after the latest episode of Bachelor in Paradise eased to 638,000 from the night before. On Foxtel, the NRL game between Brisbane and Wests averaged 278,000 and easily beat the AFL game between Sydney and Melbourne (230,000). The Paul Murray Live “Pub Test” held in the Sydney seat of Warringah only managed a peak 56,000 national viewers (it dropped back to 42,000 in the second part of the program.

In regional markets it was Seven’s 6pm News with 508,000 from Seven News/TT with 482,000, then The Chase Australia from 5.30 pm with 334,000, ACA with 309,000 and Nine News 6.30pm with 299,000.
