The Winners: Talkin’ ‘Bout Your Generation averaged 1.754 million viewers and top of the list, from MasterChef Australia with 1.596 million at 7pm and NCIS on Ten at 8.30pm with 1.592 million people. Seven News was 4th with 1.574 million and Today Tonight was 5th with 1.342 million. Seven’s 7.30pm The Zoo averaged 1.341 million and averaged 1.322 million at 8pm for Seven. Ten’s NCIS repeat averaged 1.287 million at 9.30pm, A Current Affair was 9th with 1.251 million and Nine News was 10th with 1.245 million. All Saints averaged 1.197 million at 8.30pm for Seven and Home and Away averaged 1.1490 million at 7pm. The 7pm ABC News averaged 1.061 million. Nine’s 7pm repeat of Two and a Half Men averaged 1.025 million and Ten News averaged 1.019 million.

The Losers: Nine. Home Made at 7.30pm, 831,000, 9.30pm, 812,000. The 8.30pm episode of Two and a Half Men, 885,000, the 9pm episode, 880,000. Just too much competition. The first episode of the new series of Grand Designs on the ABC at 8.30pm beat Nine with 999,000 viewers. That speaks volumes about Nine’s woes.

News & CA: Seven News again won nationally and in every market but Melbourne. Today Tonight won nationally, but lost Sydney and Melbourne. Nine News with 307,000 finished behind Seven, 436,000 and the 7pm ABC News, 356,000 in Sydney. The 7.30 Report averaged 912,000 (and beat Nine into 4th spot in the half hour). Lateline, 250,000, Lateline Business, 143,000. Foreign Correspondent at 8pm, 645,000. A good report on the social and political problems in Greece and Athens. Ten’s late News/Sports Tonight, 556,000. SNS News at 6.30pm, 160,000. 239,000 for the 9.30pm edition. 7am Sunrise, 414,000, 7am Today, a solid 334,000.

The Stats: Ten won easily, with a 6pm to midnight share in All People of 32.0% (31.3% a week ago) from Seven with 26.7% (27.8%), Nine on 21.4% (22.7%), the ABC on 15.6% (14.2%) and SBS on 4.4% (4.0%). Ten won all five metro markets and won all demographics. Ten leads the week, 28.4% from Seven with 25.9% and Nine back on 23.7%. In regional markets a win to Prime/7Qld with 29.7% with Southern Cross (Ten) with 28.0%, WIN/NBN with 22.6%, the ABC with 14.7% and SBS on 5.1%.

Glenn Dyer’s comments: Ten won easily and judging on the position for the week last night, Nine will be lucky to regain the lead tonight from Ten. It has to get more product on the screen that viewers want to watch, other than one offs like the second Origin game.

Last night was a Ten benefit really: the top three positions said it all.

Nine really suffered from keeping Home Made in the schedule when it’s such a flop. The grand final is next week. There are claims that advertisers were promised audience guarantees which have not been met. If that’s the case, Nine will have to provide make up advertising. HomeMade has hurt Nine terribly.

TONIGHT: There’s the State of Origin Rugby League game on Nine. NSW has to win.

There’s The Chaser‘s return. Will The Chaser be clean and improved, with cleansed processes designed to make a wish and make the comedy funnier? Spicks and Specks is also on the ABC before The Chaser. Both loom as the highlights of the night, even if you are Rugby League fans. An hour watching both won’t change the result, especially in NSW. (Sadness).

Seven rests Thank God You’re Here, runs Ghost Whisperer (fresh) and Criminal Minds (repeat). Ten goes all State of Origin on MasterChef (Reds against Blues). Sounds like entertaining tosh for 90 minutes from 7pm. Law and Order CI at 8.30pm and SVU at 9.30pm are both repeats. It’s down to the ABC or Nine for fresh TV tonight. If you don’t like comedy or sport, read a book or watch Pay TV.
