Tuesday night, what a black hole. Masterchef Australia stood out — 1.3 million and easily the most watched non-news program.

Nothing else mattered. Seven’s hour of news from 6 to 7pm averaged 1.85 million, Nine’s hour, 1.47 million. As usual they were the peak programs for the night and it was all downhill from there. ABC’s 7pm news averaged 1.24 million.

In breakfast Today slipped again — under 300,000 nationally with 295,000 and back under 200,000 for the metros with 199,000. That was third behind ABC’s News Breakfast, 330,000/221,000 and Sunrise was on top with 505,000/299,000.  

If Nine’s revamp of Today in 2019 was a flop, how do you describe the even more expensive revamp of Today in 2020 with with Karl Stefanovic as the main host?
