The Winners: Tennis again ruled the roost and not even a boost from the cricket could help Nine. The tennis averaged 1.338 million for what was probably the best match so far, even if Nadal was beaten in three sets. Seven News was second with 1.263 million, followed by Nine News (1.248 million), Today Tonight (1.151 million), A Current Affair (1.123 million) and the 7pm ABC News (1.087 million). 

The Losers: Now its hard to see many winners last night apart from those who loved the tennis. The cricket averaged 546,000 from 11am to 6pm when we in Sydney and Melbourne lost the signal and play for the day for the News and ACA (around 800,000 were watching just before the news). The day tennis averaged 406,000 for Seven. There’s so much ratings spak filla that doesn’t bear watching. Gordon Ramsay for example is just a nightmare the way he carries on at 9.30pm.  

News & CA: Seven News lost Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane to Nine News but won Adelaide and its big margin in Perth pushed it ahead nationally. Today Tonight won Sydney, Adelaide and Perth but lost Melbourne and Brisbane, and also needed the big margin in Perth to nose ahead of its rival nationally. The 7.30 Report averaged 779,000. Nightline, 356,000. Ten News, 764,000 (depressed by the cricket); the Late News/Sports Tonight, 523,000. SBS News, 171,000 at 6.30pm; 125,000 at 9.30pm. 7am Sunrise, 407,000; 7am Today, 277,000.

The Stats: Seven won with 32.4% from Nine with 26.4%, Ten with 20.3%, ABC with 15.4% and SBS with 5.6%. Seven won all five markets but it was again close in Adelaide where the tennis isn’t as popular. Seven leads the week 33.8% to 24.3% for Nine. In regional areas a win to Prime/7Qld with 32.1% from WIN/NBN with 27/1%, Southern Cross (Ten) with 19.5%, the ABC with 14.7% and SBS with 6.5%.

Glenn Dyer’s comments: Nine’s Two And A Half Men averaged 955,000 at 8.30pm last night. It’s going into the 7pm timeslot from Monday, but with Home and Away starting next week, there won’t be many spare viewers, especially with the Friends repeat on Ten getting between 700,000-800,000 viewers a night. The ABC News will beat it as well. The tennis tonight will be great, Federer vs Djokovic, with Jo-Wilfried Tsonga waiting for the winner. Sunday night’s final just became very interesting.
