  1. How do I sign up to Crikey’s free newsletters?
  2. How do I purchase a subscription?

    Choose your subscription plan then follow the prompts to check out and become a Crikey subscriber. It only takes two minutes to support our independent journalism.

  3. What do I get with a paid subscription to Crikey?

    As a subscriber you will receive all of our newsletters and have full access to all on-site news coverage. Additionally, only members can comment on articles and receive first invites to Crikey events. Your support means that we can continue to bring you investigations from across Australia.   4. Who qualifies for a student/concession subscription?

    Concession discounts are available to all subscribers who hold a valid Australian concession card, eg: senior’s card, pension card, student card or health-care card. Once you purchase a subscription, we’ll verify your account with those concession details.  Get more information or purchase a concession membership here.

  5. Why is my subscription promo code not working?

    The most common reason for a promotional code to not work is that the sale has expired, or that it’s only for new customers.  If you have confirmed that the promotional code is still valid for you and it’s still not working, please contact our team at support@crikey.com.au with the promo code details and the details of your email account, and we’ll look into it. 

  6. Can I share my subscription with my partner/family?

    Crikey subscriptions are connected to your individual email account. To get your partner or family access you can easily gift a Crikey subscription.

  7. What payment options do you accept?

    We accept Amex, Visa and Mastercard, and we are working to get more payment options available. For any other payment enquiries, please contact support@crikey.com.au with the details of what you are looking for.

Account Management

  1. How do I change the personal details on my subscription?

    To update your account details, click here if you are already signed in, or sign into the Crikey website, go to your account section and select ‘Contact details’. Here you can update your username, email address, password, payment and subscription details.

  2. Can I change my subscription plan?

    You can change your subscription plan at any time, and the changes will take place at the end of your current subscription cycle. To change your subscription, select the subscription you’d like to change to on this page and checkout. Please ensure you login with your current account information to connect your current Crikey subscription. The system will then update your account in your next subscription cycle. If you are unsure about your subscription plan or which subscription plan you would like, please contact our subscription team at support@crikey.com.au.

  3. My subscription has expired, how do I renew it?

    You can renew your subscription plan by signing into the Crikey website and visiting your account page. In the manage subscription section, there is the option to resume your subscription plan and update your payment details. If you CANNOT see the ‘Manage subscription’ section in your account, it is because your account needs to be updated. Update your account by clicking this link: //stagecdn.crikey.com.au/account-activation/ After you have completed the update, the ‘Manage subscription’ section will appear.   4. How can I update my credit card details?

    To update your credit card details please sign into the Crikey website and visit your account page’s subscription section. Please note when updating your credit card you will need to re enter your full credit card details including name, credit card number, expiry date and CVV. If you have any questions, please contact support@crikey.com.au

  5. How do I cancel my subscription?

    If you would like to cancel your subscription please sign into the website and visit your account page.

    • In the ‘Manage subscription’ section, you can select “cancel subscription” which will turn off your auto-renewal.
    • If you CANNOT see the ‘Manage subscription’ section in your account, it is because your account needs to be updated. Update your account by clicking this link: //stagecdn.crikey.com.au/account-activation/
      • After you have completed the update, the ‘Manage subscription’ section will appear.
    Once your subscription is cancelled, no further payments will be taken and your subscription will expire at the end of your billing period. If you have any questions, please contact support@crikey.com.au.

  6. How do I unsubscribe from newsletters?

    If you would like to unsubscribe from all Crikey emails, you may do so using the unsubscribe link at the bottom of the emails. You can unsubscribe from individual newsletters by updating your communication preferences in your member portal. Please make sure you are logged in before clicking this link to adjust your communication preferences.

  7. Where can I see when my subscription is due for renewal?

    You can see when your subscription plan will renew through your account page. 

  8. Why did my subscription renew automatically?

    All Crikey subscriptions are set to automatically renew. This is stated on our purchasing page when you first subscribe to Crikey. For any questions about your subscription renewing, please contact support@crikey.com.au.

  9. Why is there a $1 pending charge on my account?

    This is a standard process taken to confirm your credit card which is known as a pre-authorisation hold.

    Though it may appear to have been debited, no money has actually been taken from your account – it’s a pending charge which confirms your credit card is valid. Depending on the bank, this may take around a week to process the removal of this pending charge.

Access Issues

  1. I can’t access an article?

    While some articles will be unlocked throughout the week, only subscribers can get full access to Crikey’s articles. Crikey relies on paying subscribers to bring you independent journalism.  If you are already a subscriber, please ensure that you are logged in to access Crikey’s articles. If you are still unable to access articles despite being logged in, please contact our team at support@crikey.com.au so we can check your account.   2. I’m having trouble with my verification code. What do I need to do?

    When updating details, our website sends out a verification code to your registered email address as a level of security to protect your data.

    Once you have received your code, please enter it on the same page you requested it from on the website and select ‘Verify Code’. Alternatively you can also follow the ‘Click here to verify your account’ option included in the initial verification email.

    If you have not received a verification code within 5 minutes, please check your spam/junk folders. If you still have not received a verification code, please contact support for assistance on support@crikey.com.au.

  3. I have an active subscription, but I’m not receiving any emails. Why is this happening?

    Please check the following:

    • The email address is the same as the one you signed up for on your Crikey account, as this is the email where we send all newsletters;
    • That there are no Crikey newsletters in your Junk/SPAM folder;
    • That emails from crikey.com.au are in your ‘safe sender’ addresses on your email, you can learn more about whitelisting emails here.
    If all of the above is correct, please contact us at support@crikey.com.au with the following details:
    • The browser you’re using (e.g. Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Internet Explorer), along with the version number if possible;
    • The device you’re using, and the operating system (e.g. iPhone with iOS 10, desktop computer with Windows 7);
    • Any screenshots you can take of the issue as it occurs.

  4. I’m having trouble logging into the website – how can this be resolved?

    You can find the login button will be the top right button if you’re using a desktop computer, or select the menu bar to login if you are on mobile.  Please check:

    • You are using the email address connected to your Crikey subscription;
    • That your internet connection is working, and it may help to clear your browser history to allow the website to reload.
    If you are unsure if your password is correct, you can reset your password by following this link. If all of the above is not working, please contact support@crikey.com.au with the email you are trying to login with, and the browser you are using. Our team will then look into it.

  5. I have forgotten my password, how can I reset it?

    To secure your access you will need to verify your account and reset your password by following the steps below.   

    1. Go to the account activation page and enter the email address connected to your Crikey subscription
    2. Select the ‘Reset Password’ link, just above the box for your email address
    3. Check your email for a code, then enter it in the box available
    4. Set your new password and select submit
    Your password will be rest, please contact support@crikey.com.au if you are still having issues with your account.

General Questions

  1. Why aren’t my comments being published?

    Our comment moderation system flags posts with links, swear words, names or extra long comments to be moderated. Our team is constantly moderating comments but due to the high volume of comments we receive, please allow up to 48 hours for comments to be processed through moderation. Gift Subscriptions

  1. What are gift subscriptions?

    Gift subscriptions are a way for you to give the gift of Crikey to an individual of your choice at no cost to them. Gift a subscription here.

  2. How is the gift subscription delivered?

    You will need to provide the recipient’s email address when purchasing the gift. The gift recipient will receive an email notifying them that you purchased them an annual subscription, this email will include an activation code and your personalised message. You will be able to allocate a date when you would like a gift subscription activation email sent. Gift a subscription here.  

  3. I tried to give a gift subscription and the recipient never got the redemption email — what should I do?

    When you purchase the gift subscription, you will have allocated a start date. The activation email will not be sent until the date.  If the date that you allocated has already passed please email support@crikey.com.au.

  4. Can I purchase a gift subscription for someone who is already a subscriber?

    Yes you can – the gift subscription will be allocated to the end of the recipient’s existing subscription. Gift a subscription here.

  5. Can I purchase multiple gift subscriptions?

    Yes, you can go through the purchase process as many times as you like. Gift a subscription here.

  6. Can I schedule the delivery of my gift?

    Yes, you will be asked for a gift subscription start date when checking out the gift subscription. You can schedule the delivery as soon as you complete the payment process, or schedule a future date. Gift a subscription here.
